A VMA was issued after a suspected hazardous object was found outdoors in Svartbäcken in central Uppsala on Saturday morning. A marathon had to hastily change its route and not until the afternoon could the barricades be lifted.

The police and the national bomb squad investigated the object, which was deemed live. A large area was cordoned off and residents in the vicinity were accommodated. The incident affected traffic.

At half past one in the afternoon, the police announced that several objects had been checked. About an hour later, the police had completed their technical investigations and securing of evidence at the scene, and all cordons had been lifted. The objects will be sent for analysis.

The police cannot yet say what type of object it is.

A VMA, important message to the public, was issued but was lifted during the afternoon.

The operation also affected the Uppsala Marathon, which took place during the morning.

We will need to change the course, said the competition's organizer Mohamed Hasan to UNT earlier in the day.

A preliminary investigation into attempted gross general devastation and gross crime against the law on flammable and explosive objects has been initiated. No one has been arrested.
