Some people living near the object have been sheltered while waiting for the bomb squad to assess it.
The object was found close to an address where shots were fired at a door inside a stairwell earlier in the night.
"It was when we were on site, during follow-up work after the shooting, that this object was discovered," says police spokesperson Adam Isaksson Samara.
"It's easy to think there may be a direct connection between the two events, but it's too early to establish anything like that."
A young man was arrested after the shooting and has now been detained on suspicion of aggravated unlawful threats and aggravated weapons offenses.
