A man in his 60s who has been detained for nearly a month for espionage against Uighurs in Sweden has been released.
"I have lifted the detention as the man is not deemed to be able to obstruct the investigation while on the loose. There is therefore no reason to keep him detained," says senior prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist according to a press release from the Prosecution Authority.
The suspicions remain, however, according to Ljungqvist.
"The case is very sensitive and is covered by the secrecy of the preliminary investigation. I can therefore not provide any additional information," he.
The crime is suspected to have been committed on behalf of the Chinese intelligence service, according to the prosecutor.
The man denies the crime.
