A suspicious object was discovered by residents in Handen, Haninge municipality, outside an apartment door late on Thursday evening.

The circumstances surrounding the object made it suspected to be dangerous, it couldn't be dismissed directly, says Pär Fahlström.

A decision was made to evacuate the residents, some with the help of the rescue service's ladder trucks.

We have, with the help of our ladder trucks, taken out a total of 17 people who were taken to a gathering place, said Daniel Kaissidis, duty officer at the rescue service.

But it turned out to be a false alarm.

We called in the national bomb squad to investigate the object, and then they could determine that it was harmless, says Pär Fahlström at the police.

The cordons were lifted at 03.30 and the residents could then return to their apartments again. The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into unlawful threats.
