"The preliminary investigation concerns attempted murder in three cases. The suspected perpetrator, a man in his 30s, has been confirmed deceased," says prosecutor Rebecka Boholm, who is leading the preliminary investigation, in a press release.
According to the prosecutor, the victims are three children related to the suspect. They were traveling with him in the car.
"Two of them have injuries, but their condition is stable. We view it as an isolated incident and there are no other suspects. The investigation is now continuing with routine measures and, in view of the confidentiality of the preliminary investigation, I will not comment further on the case," Boholm continues.
The police were first alerted to a suspected serious crime at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday and then began searching for a suspicious car. The car was discovered in the Nynäshamn area shortly before 10 p.m., after which the police began a pursuit.
Shortly afterwards, the pursued car drove into the road barrier and a police officer was then "forced to fire in response", the authority writes. A report has been submitted to the Department for Special Investigations because the police officer fired his service weapon.
