When the man's trial began at Attunda District Court on Monday, his defense attorney said he denies murder.
The man took notes intently during the prosecutor's presentation. He seemed unmoved by the accusations against him and at one point drummed his fingers on the table.
The man is accused of killing his wife, who had filed for divorce, by drowning her in Sigtunafjärden in Lake Mälaren.
The suspected crime took place in January 2015, and the man was arrested at that time. However, after a month he was released because the evidence against him was not strong. The investigation was resumed in 2024 after a relative of the woman contacted the police.
