A man has been extradited to Sweden on suspicion of committing a 2012 murder in Gothenburg, the Swedish Prosecution Authority announced. He was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, Göteborgs-Posten reports.

The man, who had been detained in absentia since March this year, was arrested abroad in October - 13 years after the suspected crimes took place.

After detention hearings at Gothenburg District Court on Wednesday morning, it was decided that the man be detained on probable cause on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

According to Göteborgs-Posten, the man, who allegedly controlled a criminal network in Gothenburg for many years, was arrested by Austrian police in Vienna.

The murder took place in September 2012, when a 26-year-old man was shot dead at a tram stop in Västra Frölunda. According to GP, a person on a moped fired several shots at the stop, where several people were present.

The man now in custody is suspected of attempted murder of those people.
