The man in question is known as Hicham Harb and is described as one of the masterminds behind the attack, which killed six people and injured 22. Now 70-year-old Harb was arrested on the West Bank, according to information from the French judiciary and President Emmanuel Macron, who on X praises the "excellent cooperation" with the Palestinian authorities.
During the attack on the Chez Jo Goldenberg restaurant, a hand grenade detonated and over 70 shots were fired. It has been attributed to the then militant Palestinian organization Abu Nidal, which was also known as the al-Fatah Revolutionary Council.
Three to five men are believed to have been involved in the attack, and several of them have been internationally wanted.
The arrest comes just days before France, in the company of several other Western countries, is formally expected to recognize a Palestinian state. It is expected to happen during the UN General Assembly's general debate, which starts on Tuesday.
