In the opinion poll conducted by Ipsos on behalf of Dagens Nyheter, 44 percent of the respondents answered that the USA would likely not provide military support to Sweden in the event of a Russian attack. More than a fifth, 21 percent, were uncertain, while 35 percent believe in support from the USA.
There is a large question mark among voters about whether we can rely on the USA when it really matters, and it is evident across many groups, says Nicklas Källebring, opinion analyst at Ipsos, to the newspaper.
The Swedish support for NATO membership is strong, the survey shows. More than six out of ten are positive, while fewer than two out of ten are negative towards membership.
In the survey, 1,438 people were interviewed during the period of 4–16 March.
