Threats to Greenland, war in the Middle East and promises to withdraw troops from European bases have caused Europeans to change their attitude towards what was once a close and important ally.
According to the survey, published on Wednesday and conducted in May, only one in ten Europeans surveyed think the United States is an ally.
Many of those surveyed believe that relations with Washington will recover when President Donald Trump leaves the White House, but they also want to strengthen European defense to protect themselves against US unreliability.
