Supreme Court ruling could halt lawsuits against Bayer over Roundup

The lawsuits seek compensation for the company's failure to warn that the pesticide contains the potentially carcinogenic substance glyphosate.

However, the Supreme Court ruled that Bayer cannot be sued in state court because Roundup is not classified as a carcinogen under federal law. Therefore, no cancer warning label was required.

Bayer argues it is obligated to comply with these federal regulations, not the state laws under which it has been sued.

Earlier this year, Bayer proposed a settlement of $7.25 billion, equivalent to SEK 65 billion, to end ongoing lawsuits seeking damages.
