The case has been called Sweden's largest insider scandal. By the end of 2023, 18 people had been charged and 16 had been convicted in Stockholm District Court. After appeals, a total of 17 of the cases were re-examined by the Svea Court of Appeal, and in June last year, 13 of the defendants were convicted.
The ICA retailers who were sentenced to prison now risk being excluded from the ICA accountability board, which has been awaiting the Supreme Court's opinion in the case.
The owners of four of the five affected stores have sold or are in the process of selling their businesses. The retailers who own the fifth store will be called before the accountability committee "shortly", according to a press release from the ICA Retailers Association.
