The European Parliament's Trade Committee was supposed to vote on the deal with the US on Tuesday, but the vote has now been postponed, according to committee chairman Bernd Lange.

"Our negotiating team has just decided to postpone the implementation of the Turnberry agreement and the vote that was scheduled for tomorrow. Clarity and legal certainty are needed before further action can be taken," writes Lange on X about the agreement between the EU and the US that was concluded in Turnberry, Scotland, in July last year.

Earlier on Monday, Zeljana Zovko, head of trade negotiations for the largest party group, the EPP (Christian Democratic Conservatives), said the group "has no other choice," Ritzau writes.

The proposal to freeze the ratification process was presented this weekend by Bernd Lange, as a counter-move to President Donald Trump's announcement of global tariffs, first at 10 percent, then increased to 15 percent.

From the EU's perspective, a similar move has already been taken once, namely in response to Trump's threat against Greenland.
