Sundling recently concluded a successful Ski World Championship in Trondheim, where she took three gold medals (sprint, sprint relay, relay) and one bronze (skiathlon).
The plan was for her to utilize her good form when the World Cup now restarts in Holmenkollen, but that will not happen. The 30-year-old has fallen ill and left the rest of the national team to travel home.
"Jonna Sundling woke up on Friday morning with cold symptoms. She will therefore opt out of the weekend's World Cup competitions", writes the Swedish Ski Association in a statement.
It was already clear that Frida Karlsson, who took World Championship gold in the 50km on Sunday, will also be skipping the World Cup weekend. The same applies to national team skiers Calle Halfvarsson and Linn Svahn.
The competitions in Norway will take place on Saturday and Sunday and consist of two distance races, 20 and 10 kilometers (classic style and freestyle), with individual starts.
On the 10 kilometer, Sundling will be replaced by 23-year-old Märta Rosenberg, who was already selected to compete in the double distance.
