The suicide attack was directed at a sports arena where members of the local Baluchistan National Party (BNP) had gathered. Over 40 people were injured in the attack in the provincial capital Quetta.
The regional party BNP demands increased investments and a larger share of the revenues from the province of Baluchistan, which is Pakistan's largest and very rich in natural resources – at the same time as poverty and inadequate infrastructure are widespread.
In a separate attack near the border with Iran, five people were killed in a suicide explosion against a military base. In a parallel attack, six soldiers were killed in another suicide attack, according to representatives of the province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Five more people were killed on Tuesday and four injured when a car bomb exploded as a convoy was traveling near the Iranian border, according to local authorities.
The Pakistani central power has fought paramilitary groups and separatist movements during the last decade. Last year, the violence escalated, with over 780 people killed in unrest and attacks.
