Omar El Saim takes with "Besvärjelser mot ett glömt krig" an epic grip on the war in Sudan and gives insights into the country's complex history. The text is performed as a staged reading at Dramaten in Stockholm, on November 19-20.
Africa's longest war, between northern and southern Sudan, lasted from 1955 to 2005, with a pause of eleven years. Since 2023, the country has also been ravaged by a brutal civil war between the army and the paramilitary RSF.
Omar El Saim writes about the people who, despite violence, famine and misery, continue to dream of a future. He was born in Kusti, and educated at the university in Khartoum. He has published five short story collections, three novels and two poetry collections.
The concept Dramaten.Doc was launched in 2023 under the leadership of Dmitri Plax and provides a platform for playwrights, authors and theater colleagues in conflict-affected areas.
