According to the organization Sudan's doctor network, the rebel group RSF began shelling the city, which is the government forces' last stronghold in the Darfur province, late on Friday evening.
Among other things, a residence for families who were forced to flee their homes due to the civil war was hit. In addition to the fatalities, dozens of people are reported to have been injured.
El-Fasher has been besieged by RSF for over a year. According to the UN, over a quarter of a million people are trapped in the city. As recently as Thursday, eight people were killed in a drone attack on a maternity ward.
The brutal civil war that has raged between the paramilitary RSF and Sudan's army since April 2023 has claimed tens of thousands of fatalities. Over 14 million people have been forced to flee and nearly 25 million are estimated to be suffering from acute hunger.
