A sharp increase in the use of drones has been noted in Sudan's civil war, according to the UN.

“According to the information we have received, over 500 civilians were killed in such attacks between January 1 and March 15,” says the human rights organization’s spokesperson, Marta Hurtado.

“The vast majority of these civilian deaths were documented in three states in the Kordofan region,” Hurtado adds.

Sudan's Southern Kordofan region is currently the hardest-hit area in the war between the country's army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The civil war has been going on for three years and has caused widespread suffering for Sudanese civilians. Tens of thousands of people are reported to have been killed and eleven million have been forced to flee.
