Marmoush stole the show – Ederson makes history

The pre-match talk was about Alexander Isak and Erling Braut Haaland. Which of the high-profile goal-scorers would have the last word – the Swede or the Norwegian? Then, new acquisition Omar Marmoush stepped forward and stole the show in the Premier League's top match.

The Egyptian, until recently a club teammate with Hugo Larsson in Eintracht Frankfurt, slammed in ball after ball before the break. It became a hat-trick within 14 minutes during the first 32 minutes – and that in his only third match for Manchester City in the Premier League.

City won at home with 4–0.

For one of the goals, Marmoush was played forward by goalkeeper Ederson. A historic pass – Ederson is now alone among goalkeepers to have recorded six goal-scoring passes in the Premier League.

Previously, he shared the record with Paul Robinson, who played for Blackburn, Leeds, and Tottenham.

The third of the season

Moreover, it was Ederson's third assist just this season.

Manchester City is fourth in the table, while Newcastle fell back in the hunt for a Champions League spot in the fall. The club is down to seventh place.

The question is how Haaland's one knee is doing. He grimaced badly but got up and was substituted out without showing any pain.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz are injured. They are not just any attackers. Arsenal's solution to the crisis? Up with midfielder Mikel Merino on top.

Did not disappoint

It went as well as possible. Merino did not disappoint, least of all manager Mikel Arteta.

Merino banged in two balls in the 2–0 win away against Leicester – and Arsenal stays behind Liverpool in the Premier League top.

Both goals came at the end of the match.

It was the first time I played as a striker, our coach said I should use my strengths, so that's what I did, says Merino to Viaplay after the match.

+ Jens Cajuste played from the start when Ipswich secured 1–1 away against Aston Villa.

+ Anthony Elanga was also present from the kickoff, at Craven Cottage in London. Nottingham fell against Fulham with 1–2.
