On April 29, "Je m'appelle Agneta" premiered on Netflix, and according to the streaming service, the film, in which Eva Melander plays Agneta, has had 3.5 million views in less than a week.
This has brought it up to second place on Netflix's top-ten list of non-English-language films. It is in first place in Sweden and also in the top ten in 29 countries.
Emma Hamberg created the character Agneta, inspired by many stories she received from female readers who, like the character in the novel, felt invisible in their everyday lives and dreamed of a better life. The novel has sold 350,000 copies since it was published five years ago. “Je m'appelle Agneta” has also been turned into a theater performance.
