In their black jerseys with blue and white stripes, the players of the NHL team Utah made their home debut in Salt Lake City – and secured an easy win. The match against Chicago was the newly formed club's first ever.
Already after five minutes of play, Canadian Dylan Guenther scored the first goal, followed by another from American Clayton Keller. In the second period, Barrett Hayton extended the lead to 3–0 – before Chicago's Teuvo Teravainen and Nick Foligno reduced the score with one goal each.
However, it was not enough for Chicago. With barely a minute left to play, Utah scored two more goals, courtesy of Dylan Guenther and Lawson Crouse.
It was clear in April that the NHL club Arizona Coyotes would move to Utah, after the owners of the NBA team Utah Jazz bought the team. It is still not clear what the club will actually be called – during the first season, they are playing with a temporary jersey marked "Utah" while waiting for everything around the brand to be finalized.
