Boeing, the struggling aircraft manufacturer, is on the verge of a major turnaround after a few tough years. Revenues rose 57 percent in the fourth quarter, and order intake is strengthening.

“We are making good progress and there is much to be optimistic about as we enter a new year,” said CEO Kelly Ortberg in a statement to employees on Tuesday.

After several years marked by plane crashes involving Boeing aircraft and quality problems, customers have come back. In the last quarter of the year, deliveries tripled. The order book has increased to a record $682 billion.

But there is still some way to go. There was still an operating loss last year of $507 million, compared with a loss of $2.27 billion the year before.
