Previous research has linked night work to an increased risk of coronary artery disease, a type of heart disease.

But a high-fiber diet can reduce the risk of heart disease among night workers.

"A moderate fiber intake of about 19 grams per day was linked to lower risk for those who worked nights regularly. For those who worked nights occasionally, about 15 grams was sufficient. Current recommendations for adults are about 25 grams of fiber per day," Diana Nôga, a researcher at Uppsala University, said in a press release.

The study, which included data from 220,000 adults in the UK, was published in the European Journal of Epidemiology.
