The report is based on about ten studies from Sweden, as well as from other countries with healthcare conditions similar to Sweden's.
The report shows that the risk of a child dying in the first week of life or during childbirth is around 70 percent higher outside hospital.
On average, 0.7 children died per 1,000 children born in hospitals. The corresponding figure for home births ranges from 0.8 to 5.1. The range is wide because deaths in connection with births are uncommon, and small differences therefore result in large variations.
