Japanese film studio Studio Ghibli is asking Open AI to stop training its AI models on the studio's copyrighted material without permission, Techcrunch reports.

The letter was sent by the Japanese trade organization Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA), which represents, among other things, Studio Ghibli.

Studio Ghibli is behind blockbusters like “Spirited Away” and “My Neighbor Totoro.” When Chat GPT launched its image tool, it became popular to use AI to create images that would look like Studio Ghibli’s works. Among others, Open AI’s CEO Sam Altman has jumped on the trend and has a profile picture on the X platform that strongly resembles Studio Ghibli’s works.
