The shooting took place at a school in Zamboanga City, in the southern part of the country, according to the local mayor.
The perpetrator is said to have been wearing a body camera to broadcast the incident live. In addition to the student killed, a teacher was also shot, although it is unclear whether the shots hit.
The shooting is the second in the country this summer. In June, at least three people were killed in a school shooting in Tacloban City in Leyte province.
