The overall result for the country's municipalities and regions in 2025 was plus SEK 40.3 billion. This was SEK 34.2 billion better than in 2024, according to figures from Statistics Sweden (SCB).
This was mainly due to higher tax revenues.
The municipalities recorded a surplus of SEK 32 billion, while the regions' combined result was plus SEK 8.3 billion.
35 of 290 municipalities reported deficits. 6 of 21 regions reported negative results for 2025.
