Emissions from the Swedish economy increased by 6.7 percent during the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to statistics from SCB.
Emissions are increasing primarily from households' passenger cars, road transport, the construction industry, and agriculture.
"2024 has the largest emissions for a first quarter since 2020," says Fredrik Kanlén, analyst at SCB's environmental accounts, in a comment.
The total greenhouse gas emissions for the quarter amount to 12.9 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, up from 12.1 million tons the same period last year.
