The Swedish golf veteran went out early on Sunday, when he was ten strokes behind leader Alex Smalley heading into the final round.
At the difficult Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia, Norén got off to a flying start with a birdie on the first hole. Seventeen holes later, Norén had five more birdies, two bogeys, and a total of 66 strokes on the scorecard.
"I came in with slightly higher hopes than just trying to string pars together, but this course gives and takes," says Norén.
Major debutant Mikael Lindberg started the day one under par and is still out on the course. The biggest Swedish hope is Ludvig Åberg, tied for second at four under heading into the final round.
