The government's proposal was adopted by 284 votes to 15.
The decision means that three-quarters of the sentence must be served before parole can take place. Today, two-thirds applies.
The increase in the limit from January 1, 2026 applies to the longest sentences, the increase for shorter sentences under six years will occur later so that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service can catch up.
In addition, the threshold for postponing conditional release in cases of mismanagement will be lowered. It will also be possible to postpone conditional release in cases of risk of recidivism in serious crime.
The minimum prison sentence will be one month and all sentences will be eligible for conditional release.
