Google is changing several features of its video-sharing service YouTube to strengthen parental controls on children's viewing.

Among other things, it will be easier to set how long children and teenagers can watch short videos, known as "shorts." There is now the option to completely turn off the feed during homework, for example.

It will also be easier to create parent-controlled accounts, and to switch directly between child and teen accounts in the app so that viewers can get content adapted to their age.

To continuously highlight high-quality content for teenagers, YouTube has developed new recommendation principles with experts from several universities.
