Parts of Avenue de Pologne in Paris' 16th arrondissement will be renamed after the deceased Russian regime critic Alexei Navalny, the city hall announces.
The name change will take place in this particular area because it has been a popular spot for the Russian diaspora, and because the Russian Embassy is located there.
The French capital announces in a statement that the purpose is to honor "the resistance he embodied against (Russia's President) Vladimir Putin's dictatorship".
Navalny died under unclear circumstances in a penal colony in Russia almost a year ago, where he was serving a prison sentence of over 30 years for extremism.
