Norwegian media are wondering how the Norwegian royal family will emerge from the ongoing crisis.
"This has developed into an acute crisis over the weekend," writes NRK's foreign affairs editor Sigurd Falkenberg Mikkelsen, and it is supported by VG, among others.
"Based on what we already know, it doesn't look good. The Crown Princess has a lot to explain," writes the newspaper's Hanne Skartveit, warning that more revelations may come and that the royal family must work hard to get through the crisis.
Jonas Gahr Støre also comments on the information.
"I understand that many people react to what comes out in the documents. I do too," he writes, according to Norwegian media.
The comment also applies to former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland, who, according to the released documents, planned joint investments with Epstein.
Jagland and his family are also said to have planned a visit to Epstein on his Caribbean island. Following the revelation, several representatives of Jagland's Labour Party have urged him to leave the party.
He says he agrees with the criticism.
"I would never have had contact with Epstein if I knew what we know now," he writes to Aftenposten.
Jonas Gahr Støre's statement about Mette-Marit is extremely unusual, according to Norwegian experts.
"I can't recall a prime minister having directed such criticism at a member of the royal family. It illustrates the seriousness of the crisis," Aftenposten's political editor Kjetil Alstadheim told VG.
