Although the group has not provided any explanation, it is likely following the example of K-pop group BTS, writes Der Spiegel. South Korean BTS announced in July that they would not be submitting any entries to the Grammys.
“We hope that music can be heard and loved regardless of region or language – simply like music itself,” the group wrote on social media, which is seen as a protest against the new award category “Best Asian Pop Music Performance.” Critics accuse the music academy of placing Asian music in a separate category instead of comparing it with other pop music.
