The series will be set in Nevada in 1955 - 30 years before the original, which is set in 1980s Indiana.
Screenwriter Kate Trefry, who also worked on “Stranger Things”, is leading the project. The first three episodes will be directed by Joe Wright, known for the Churchill film “Darkest Hour”, the drama “Atonement” and the Mussolini series “M: Il figlio del secolo”.
The cast, however, has not yet been set.
“It’s ‘Stranger Things’, but at the same time exciting and fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains,” say the Duffer brothers, who created the original.
