The Canary Islands are bracing for the 19th storm of the season to hit the archipelago, and the upcoming Storm Therese looks set to be the worst yet, reports the news site Canarias7.
Authorities are warning of heavy downpours until Sunday, with subsequent flooding and landslide risks, especially in Tenerife and La Palma. In Tenerife, all hiking trails have been closed, and both Tenerife and Lanzarote have been warned against outdoor activities. Schools in the Canary Islands have also cancelled all in-person attendance for the rest of the week.
However, so far only a few flights to or within the Canary Islands have been diverted to other airports.
