At least 17 people have died in floods in several parts of Afghanistan, a spokesman for the country's National Disaster Management Authority said on Thursday. At least 11 people have been injured.

The season's first heavy rain and snowfall, which ended a long-term drought, also brought thunderstorms.

Several people died when the roof of a building collapsed in Kabkan in western Afghanistan. Two of the victims were children, the area's governor said.
