A stomach virus has spread through the Finnish women's ice hockey team ahead of the Olympic tournament in Milan. The opening match scheduled for tonight against Canada has been postponed by a week.

"The Lady Lions" only had ten players on the ice during warm-ups earlier today.

All other players are either sick or exposed and therefore in quarantine, said Hanna Malmberg, communications manager, to Swedish Yle.

A little later, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that the match would be postponed and rescheduled for February 12. Previously, the AP news agency had reported that Canada would be awarded the victory, but that is not the case.

To be able to play an Olympic match, the team must consist of at least 15 outfield players and two goalkeepers.
