Police in the American state of Pennsylvania are investigating an unusual theft: eggs worth $40,000, equivalent to over 436,000 kronor.
The thieves struck against the egg transport in Greencastle on Saturday evening, report media in the USA. Under the cover of darkness, they managed to seize around 100,000 eggs, according to the state police.
The theft occurs while egg prices in the USA are rapidly approaching record levels. In several places, reports of egg shortages are emerging due to several major outbreaks of bird flu, writes CNN. Since November, millions of egg-laying hens are said to have died from the virus in the USA.
