The environmental zone was stopped by the County Administrative Board in May 2025 because the board did not think Stockholm's investigation was good enough to make a decision. Now the authority has stated its position on the issue.
Based on the municipality's investigation, the County Administrative Board assesses that the benefits of the environmental zone do not outweigh the socio-economic consequences it would have in the area in question, says Johan Erlandsson, lawyer at the County Administrative Board.
The decision can be appealed to the Swedish Transport Agency.
The environmental zone would cover 20 blocks, where only electric cars and low-emission gas vehicles would be allowed, and for heavy traffic, low-emission plug-in hybrids would also be permitted.
