"Stockholm County thus replaces Halland as the county with the highest life expectancy for both women and men," says Li Ma, a demographer at Statistics Sweden, in a press release.
Statistics Sweden notes that this is the first time Stockholm County has topped the statistics on life expectancy.
The average life expectancy in Sweden over the past five years is 85.1 for women and 81.8 for men. In Stockholm County, it is 86.0 for women and 82.7 for men.
Stockholm, Halland, Uppsala, and Jönköping have a "significantly" higher life expectancy than other counties. The shortest life expectancy over the past five years was among residents of Norrbotten County, followed by Västernorrland and Gävleborg.
Danderyd is the municipality with the longest life expectancy, 87.8 for women and 85.9 for men.
