Just under half an hour after opening, the stock exchange's broad OMXS index was down 2.2 percent.
All shares on the large-cap index OMXS30 were down. Mining group Boliden, telecom manufacturer Ericsson and defense group Saab were trading in the bottom tier, down around 2.5 percent.
The price of oil rose slightly during the morning. A barrel of North Sea oil (Brent) was $113. The price of gold fell 6 percent to just over $4,200 per ounce.
The Stockholm Stock Exchange fell 1.6 percent on Friday. The New York Stock Exchange also closed in the red.
