Downward pulled among other things the telecom sector and the major banks. Telia, for example, lost 1.1 percent, while Nordea fell 1.0 percent.

Swedbank announced that the bank is buying the British Barclays share of the credit card company Entercard, a deal of 2.6 billion kronor. The Swedbank share fell 0.7 percent.

On the plus side in the large-cap index OMXS30 were primarily engineering companies, among them Atlas Copco which rose 1.2 percent. Epiroc, which manufactures equipment for the mining and construction industries, lifted 0.8 percent.

During the morning, the research company Bioarctic released interim results, and the share soared 11.8 percent after the company turned operating loss to profit.

The medical technology company Elekta, which also presented its interim results, fell heavily, down 4.7 percent.

On the leading European stock exchanges, the development was mixed with small index movements. The London Stock Exchange fell slightly, the Paris Stock Exchange rose a few tenths of a percent and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange was largely unchanged.
