The biggest drop among the stock market heavyweights was in mining company Boliden, which fell 4.3 percent. Telecom company Ericsson lost 2.6 percent.

The pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca moved most in the opposite direction, rising 2.1 percent.

After starting in the green, Stockholm turned to the red before losing steam again.

At the close in Stockholm, the stock exchanges in Frankfurt and Paris were down, while London was up. In New York, all three major indexes were down.

The negative turn in Europe came after strong labor market figures for May were published in the US, which in turn reduced the chances of interest rate cuts.

During the week, Stockholm fell 0.9 percent. Since the turn of the year, the index has been up 3.8 percent.
