A police officer who used his stun gun against a man outside a nightclub in Stockholm in the fall of 2024 has been convicted of assault.
The man was lying on the ground with several police officers and security guards around him when an officer used his stun gun to deliver a shock to the man's head, neck and nape. The man suffered injuries, pain and briefly lost consciousness.
The use of the stun gun in the situation was unjustified, according to the Stockholm District Court, because the man was essentially already under control. The officer was given a suspended sentence and 120 hours of community service.
The penalty for the act is equivalent to six months in prison, but the district court took into account that the officer risks losing his job because of the verdict.
