Interest in running 42,195 metres on the streets of the capital is at a record high, and by the end of August 25,000 runners had registered for next year's edition of the Stockholm Marathon, on May 29.
The race was thus sold out, the organizers announced.
"Since then, however, a couple of thousand starting places from our international allocation have been returned and will now be released via the regular registration system," Stockholm Marathon writes now.
The remaining starting places for the 48th edition of the marathon will be released on Tuesday morning, but at an increased price.
