An area described as a “new type of arena” for outdoor events will open in Stockholm next year. Portlands in Frihamnen will have space for up to 30,000 visitors.

It is not an arena in the traditional sense of the word, but a 15,000 square meter open space adjacent to the Banankompaniet cultural scene in Frihamnen.

"It's a fantastic place with great potential for great events and ideas, something that Stockholm lacks and needs. I see bigger concerts, festivals, markets and sporting events ahead," says Johan Andersson, CEO of Banankompaniet, in a press release.

Portlands is a collaboration between Banankompaniet, Kulturarenor AB, which operates the nightclub Trädgården and the concert venue Fållan, and Stockholms Harnar, which leases the space.
