The announcement comes after Matt Reeves, who directed the first film, was forced to take a break for personal reasons. Soderbergh will help with filming, which is now in its final stages.
“Matt and Steven will work closely with the cast and crew to complete Matt’s vision for the film,” a spokesperson for DC Studios said in a statement to Variety.
Soderbergh is known for films such as "Erin Brockovich", "Traffic" and "Ocean's Eleven".
The sequel to “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson, has been delayed a number of times. The latest announcement is that the film will premiere in February 2028.
