According to the "Peaky Blinders" creator, Amazon has given him "license to reinvent" the legendary MI6 agent, created by author Ian Fleming.
Bond has been bulletproof. People have been able to make mistakes and variations but the character has survived, Knight said at the Cannes Film Festival, adding:
The core is like a diamond. You can't touch it. The person you're talking about is a legend.
Knight says that in his research he has met with both special forces and secret agents ahead of the upcoming 007 film, the 26th in the series, to be directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Amazon MGM Studios, which has taken over the Bond rights, confirms that the search for the next James Bond has begun.
