But in a conversation with Zoë Ball on Britain's Greatest Hits Radio, screenwriter Steven Knight confirms that this is on track and that a first draft of the script is ready.
The prolific screenwriter, currently working on the Oasis documentary "Don't Look Back in Anger", describes working on Bond as something that surpasses anything he ever dreamed of doing.
"It's an honour to have been asked. And I think it's going to be so good," he says.
Earlier this week, Knight hinted that he knew who had been cast as Bond in the 26th film, which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve.
On the BBC Radio 4 programme "Today," he was asked if he wrote the film with the chosen actor in mind, or based on what he knew about the character, and replied:
It's a little bit of both.
He added:
It makes life a little easier if you know who the person is, but you also have to write the character, not the actor.
